HERBS
Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa)
Exhibits estrogenic activity
Well researched for its efficacy in alleviating hot flushes by lowering levels of the luteinising hormone (LH) which is secreted by the pituitary gland.
May be useful in alleviating vaginal dryness as well as mood disturbances (depression) in women.
Black cohosh does not interfere with the secretion of other hormones form the pituitary gland.
It is a uterine stimulant and should not be taken by pregnant women.
Dong quai (Angelica sinensis)
It is a general tonic and is considered 'the female ginseng' midway between plant estrogens and plant progesterones and is often prescribed for painful menstruation, pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), fatigue, menopausal symptoms, weakness after childbirth, fibroid uterus and fibrocystic breats disease.
Fenugreek
