Before

I used to be a pretty skinny guy with a very fast metabolism. I used to be very active at school but that all changed when I started working full-time. In my early twenties going to gym three or four times kept me quite skinny and allowed me to eat whatever and as much as I liked.


As the years went past and the job got more demanding I started going to gym less and eating more to fill the emotional gap that gets created by a stressful lifestyle – always consoling myself with the fact that I have a fast metabolism. This consequently started the downward cycle and the weight gain. I tried going to gym more, eating 5 meals a day but nothing worked as I just gained more and more weight and peaked at 110kg. I tended away from social situations and my relationships suffered.

During

I was introduced to the Slimming Clinic by Adele Mynhardt and in a ten minute conversation she changed my life. I never thought of myself as someone that would go on a diet and drink health shakes and starve myself to death – I just thought men just don’t do things like that. She explained the basics of the medications and the simple and basic principles of a “real healthy eating plan”. The medication schedule was easy to follow because it was all taken with meals and therefore very well structured. The first two weeks was especially hard for me because the portion size of what I used to eat decreased to about 20% not because it is unmanageably small portions but because I was an absolute glutton and has never had professional advice of the portions size the human body actually needs to function. What really amazed me was how much the Glucose support helped me with cravings and that made it easier to stick to the eating pattern and not cheat on the eating plan. If I had cravings I drank water and the cravings dissipated.


I consequently changed my gym program from 60min to 30min and get much more out of it because I have more focussed training sessions. I have kept the same make-up of the program with a combination of weights and cardio to ensure I don’t lose muscle mass while still losing body fat.


The true emotional struggle was convincing my friends and family in social situations that what I am doing is worth it and will yield the results. Initially it took saying no to many nice things to eat and drink but still going out with everyone – funnily enough there was no cravings for these grubs because of the internal emotional motivation and the support provided by the Slimming Clinic products.


In the first two weeks the weight loss started slow because my body was adapting itself to the radical changes and I lost about 3kg. From week three I started losing about 3-4kg per week and the motivation just got easier to push myself. In the first two months on the Slimming Clinic program I lost 28kg and consequently have lost 32kg and now weigh 78kg. I have gone from a 40’ to a 32” jean size. My body fat has also gone down from 32% to 10-12%The added advantage to the eating plan is the fact that I am saving thousands of rands every month because I am not splurging on fast foods, alcohol, chocolates and can buy in bulk because I know exactly what I am eating when.

After

Now I have created a well educated eating plan that is easily maintainable. I now have the “toolkit” to educate my kids with to ensure they are raised with good eating habits and not fall in the same trap as I did. I have more confidence in social and professional environments because I am easily the slimmest person in any crowd. I have bought myself a whole new wardrobe because I just know I will keep the weight off.

I still follow the gym program because I made it part of my daily schedule (and I can’t wait to show off my new body!)
All the friends and family is absolutely amazed with the results and I am revering them all to the Slimming Clinic.


Before

I started my Slimming Clinic program in January 2009 feeling totally useless. I was fat, unfit and always tired. I weighed 143kg and really thought I looked like a whale.

During

In the beginning it was anything but easy. The food was ok, but the walking was hell. I bought a treadmill because I was afraid that if I took to the streets I would be totally exhausted and far from home.

I couldn't walk for 3 minutes without losing my breath. The more I walked the better it got. Today, after only 6 months, and 30kg less, I can easily walk 30 minutes without being dead. Keeping up with my diet is easy, I can't do without my veggies and I eat them everyday. If someone had old me that a year ago I would have laughed at them.

After

I feel wonderful with a lot of energy. I can enjoy my grandchildren and I no longer complain of being tired. I look good, not wonderful yet, but I'm on my way. It's easy to get oot of a chair and bed and heavenly to take a bath. I can look in the mirror withoug feeling terrible about what I see.

To anyone out there who needs to lose weight, IT CAN BE DONE! Please do not lose hope, keep on and you will also feel wonderful!

Before

I was admitted into hospital in July 2009 with pneumonia. I had to be weighed on admission. I weighed 121kg. I spent the week in hospital and was released on Thursday 9 July and had my first appointment with Dr Wian Stander on Friday 10 July. My husband and I went for supper that Friday night and I ate as if it was my last meal ever!!!!

On 11 July I once again started my battle of the bulge. I have been a yo-yo dieter my whole life. I stuck to my diet religiously for 3 months and by my sons 21st on 4 September I had lost 16,5kg. I was feeling great and had already dropped from a size 24 to a size 18.

During

Dr Stander had told me to exercise 4 times a week right from the word go. I DON'T DO GYM. So that part of the guidance I just pretended not to hear or read. From October till March I dropped another 14 kilos. I was not following the eating plan as strictly as I had done originally but was still pretty good. But from April till end of June, I was good 3 days of the week and then falling off the bus. My weight was up and then down but I did not actually lose any weight in those three months.

From July I have once again stuck to the eating plan AND I joined Curves gym. I can now say “I DON”T DO GYM, BUT I DO CURVES”. Curves is great for me personally for a few reasons:

  • Only women
  • Only 40 minutes a session
  • The SMART TAG system they use is fantastic for monitoring you on a continual basis
  • You are not stiff after exercising
  • I feel great!!!!!

After

I am now weighing 85kg (lost 36kg) in a year. This was my original goal weight but I still want to lose more. I am not sure where I will end up on the scale but I know that I have got the best mentor, motivator and friend in Dr Wian Stander. I am now wearing a size 14 and feel wonderful.
